Additional support has been provided by
the Center for Citizen Peacebuilding; David Rosten; the Center for Study of Democracy; European Languages & Studies; Chicano and Latino Studies; the Department of Philosophy; the Political Theory Workshop; UC Riverside; UCLA; UCSD; DECADE (Diverse Educational Community and Doctoral Experience); the Critical Race Theory Workshop; the Department of International  Studies; the Department of Sociology; the Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science; the Office of Inclusive Excellence; the UCI Critical Theory Group; and UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program)

Irvine Mountains

Thursday events will be held in three buildings on UC Irvine's campus, all on Social Science Plaza.  You can find the three buildings in square 6D of this all-campus map, or in more close detail on this map  -- the buildings are Social Science Plaza A (#211), Social Science Plaza B (#213) and Social & Behavioral Sciences Gateway (#214).  A shuttle bus will be provided at 12:30 PM for all attendees headed to Thursday events; after the reception that evening, there will be two buses leaving at about 8 PM for the conference hotel.  A schedule for all shuttles for the weekend can be found here.  To plan your own transport to campus, it may be helpful to consult this map with transport times (generally less than 15 minutes)

Friday and Saturday activities will be held at the Student Center (#113 on the same map as above; or in more detail here). On Friday and Saturday, shuttles will run twice in the early morning and once mid-morning (at 7:30 and 8 AM, then again at 10 AM), and once after the closing event of the day.  A schedule for all shuttles for the weekend can be found here.
Again, transport times via car are suggested by this map.

Program

The final program for the Conference can be found here.  Print copies of the final program will be distributed at the conference.

Registration

Conference participants must be members of the Association. Membership is free. If you are not yet a member, please submit a membership application before registering. If you are a member already, please login before continuing to the registration page. You can register by going here.

Important Deadlines

• Deadline to withdraw from program: July 31st (Any confirmed participant who withdraws after this date will not be able to propose a paper as author or co-author for the 2020 Conference. This policy was approved by the governance committee, and it has helped to stem an increase in late withdrawals. Each year APT must turn down 200 proposals, and late withdrawals leave open spots on the program that could have been filled by one of our colleagues.)

• Deadline to register and pay for all participants appearing on the program: September 1st (After this date, we will offer any unconfirmed spots on the program to alternates.)

• Deadline to register and pay for all other conference attendees: September 6th (After this date, the registration fee will automatically increase by $50. This deadline is necessary for planning the conference, especially the meals.)

If you have any difficulties registering for the conference please contact our service provider, ClubExpress, via the "Website Technical Support" information on the "Contact Us" page linked in the top menu.

Lodging

(NOTE: there are two Marriotts in Newport Beach. We will be at Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Spa and NOT at Newport Beach Marriott Bayview.)

Hotel reservations are now available at the conference hotel, the beautiful Marriott Newport Beach Hotel and Spa.  You can make a reservation at this link.  Or you can call the hotel directly to book at: (877) 622-3056.  When you speak to the reservations staff, tell them that you are part of the "UCI Department of Political Science APT Room Block" to ensure that you get the preferred rate of $159/night.  The last date to receive the preferred rate is October 2nd, 2019. Reservations may be canceled for no charge up to 3 days before arrival. The hotel will assess a fee of one-night room and tax if cancelled after this deadline.

Travel To/From Hotels and Campus

There are four possible airports to fly into. John Wayne is by far the most convenient. Here is a link to information from Marriott about the four airports.  UCI provides this map to help you gauge the distance from airports to campus.

1. John Wayne Airport (SNA) also called Orange County Airport or Santa Ana Airport.
This is very close to campus (10 minutes) and close to hotel (15 minutes).
There is no public transportation to speak of.
Taxi to hotel about $18; Uber/Lyft to hotel about $12.

2. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
This has the most flights and often the least expensive.  But LAX can be a nightmare.
60 minutes ride with no traffic.
Uber/Lyft about $55. There are ride share pick up spots at every terminal on the Arrivals level.
Taxi $125
SuperShuttle about $48. This must be booked in advance at this link and can take quite some time depending on number of other drop offs.

3. Long Beach International Airport (LGB).
24 miles and 30 minutes from hotel.
Uber/Lyft, $35
Taxi $65
SuperShuttle about $32

4. Ontario International Airport (ONT).
This is very small and only viable for people coming from west coast.
50 miles from hotel
Taxi $100
Uber/Lyft about $45
SuperShuttle $40

5. Train Station: Irvine Station Amtrak

Paper Archive

Presenters on workshop panels must submit by September 27th, 2019, while those on regular panels must submit no later than October 4th, 2019.

To submit your paper, log on in the upper right corner of this screen, then follow this link to the paper archive.  Find the "2019 Irvine" folder in the lefthand menu.  Important: to access any folder, click on the folder icon itself, not the text description.  Open the folder for the session you are part of, then click the text link for the panel you are on (if you don't remember your session or panel, you can find them in our preliminary program here).  A blue "Upload" button will appear in the upper righthand corner.  Click that button, and a popup window will appear.  Give your paper a title (preferably with your last name in it), hit the "Select" button to upload your paper from your computer, then hit the "Save" button to complete the process.

If you have any problems with uploading, please contact our service provider, ClubExpress, via the "Website Technical Support" information on the "Contact Us" page linked in the top menu of the website.

Pre-circulation is a requirement: All papers accepted for the conference must be submitted electronically to the paper archive.  As stated in acceptance emails, failure to upload a completed paper by the deadlines above makes the author ineligible to submit a paper proposal for next year's conference.  The archive will be password-protected so that access is limited to members of APT.

Our deadlines are to allow discussants and other conference participants sufficient time to read and prepare comments on papers.  Papers should be no more than 30 double-spaced pages in length so that discussants may provide suitable feedback.

We look forward to seeing you all at UC Irvine in October!
